Sequoia's Biography

  • Sequoia Henning is a well traveled, open-minded, spiritual being who follows her heart, and lives a life based on faith, integrity and truth. Sequoia began her spiritual practice consciously in her teenage years while searching for a deeper answer by attending  meditations, and  classes on spiritual development.  Sequoia continues to cultivate and expand her knowledge for Yoga, holistic healing and self realization.

Some of her influences are reflected with the philosophy of Buddhism, Yoga and her First Nations ancestry. Knowing we are here to learn and grow from all of our experiences in life which helps awaken our consciousness to simply re-remember our God/Goddess self. When you can see this within your self then you can easily see it in others.

Yoga studies

My Yoga journey started 1993 while in north India . Needing some discipline I went to an ashram situated along side the Sacred Ganges river in Rishikesh, where I studied Iyengar yoga in the evening from  Guru Swami Gi, and  in the morning I would go over to the Shivanada Center and study Hatha yoga from Swami Krishna a 82 young man who had more energy then I witnessed among most children. After Six weeks of these combined classes my life completely changed. I stopped smoking after 10 years, and my life has never been the same.
I have practiced yoga with various teachers and have found the deeper I grow into it, the more I realize its not just a class but a way of life.  Hence the word yoga means  yoke or Union , to be in union with everything always. Its a gradual process beyond the physical asana and bridging the whole philosophy into ones life. This  requires great devotion and discipline.
I have explored various styles of yoga with  kudalini, Ashtanga, VIni yoga.

I finally  received my yoga teachers training in 2007 at the Chakra Yoga center in Thailand based on the Hatha yoga tradition.  I visit India regularly  to further my studies of yoga, Pranayama and knowledge of Sanskrit Mantras.

Yoga of Sound ( Nada Yoga)

My knowledge has been an interwoven ongoing evolution of expansion taking bits and pieces from various workshops from such teachers as Tom Kenyon, Mitch Nuir, Lisa Murphy, Gina Sila , Uma Gi, Sadhvi Abha Saraswati ( Mataji)  and other teachers in India. Experimenting  first hand with the use of sound on my own body, as  it was also one of my tools for healing my self of illness, combined with reading many books, and cultivating a daily practice with the use of Nada Yoga. I continue to dove tail the teachings all together and I am always reminded how every thing and every one is so connected to this unseen yet deeply felt energy of vibration. The more in harmony we are the easier it is to feel it around us.
