What are Bandhas
Have you ever been to a yoga class and you hear the teacher say, squeeze your moola bandha and you think squeeze my what? Wishing you new more about what bandhas are and how they work?
Bandhas is a Sanskrit word which means, “to bind” or “to tighten or lock” These definitions describe the physical actions involved in the practice of bandhas and its effect on the prana and their effect on the panic body.
Bandha is a technique through which the opposite poles of energy or Shakti are bound together. Specific parts of the body are gently yet powerfully contracted and tightened, locking and accumulating the pranks in particular areas, then redirecting their flow into shushumna nadi for the purpose of spiritual awakening.
There are three main bandhas or locks
Moola Bandha known as the root lock
Uddiyana Bandha known as the solar plexas lock
Jalandhara Bandha known as the throat lock
When using these locks its invites the yogi to experience a deeper practice which has a direct effect on the nervous system, hormonal system and energy of the body.
